A number of finance support is available to students; including loans for tuition charges and maintenance ; bursaries, grants and awards. Additional help is also available for students with children, disabled students, scholars with adult relatives, students on NHS and social work courses, and scholars on initial teacher training courses.

Aside from a few public-sector professional courses, for example those leading to Qualified Teacher standing ( QTS ), there is no automated entitlement to help with the price of postgraduate course charges. There is limited help available for UK students thru the study councils. Annually, these bodies distribute a restricted number of studentships, which cover course fees and a upkeep grant towards the price of living. Competition is intense and even students with first class honours degrees are commonly unsuccessful.

Establishments occasionally have their own studentships and bursaries for postgraduate scholars. You must contact your selected establishment to determine if there is one for which you may be eligible. It should be remembered that many postgraduate courses can be taken part time, allowing you to work while studying.
